This eye-catching plant is native to Burma (not Persia as the name may leave you to believe). With striking purple leaves which has an almost iridescent sheen. This plant is a winner. Natural to tropical climates the Persian Shield also does well in cooler climates and is a popular houseplant as it tends to bloom in winter. The Persian Shield likes bright, indirect sunlight to maintain its vivid color, but if outside prefer some shade during the hottest part of the day. As it prefers a humid climate misting will also help keep the leaves in top condition. Keep the soil moist and water when the top layer of soil dries.
We also grow the Strobilanthes dyeriana Persian Shield in the Decorative Indoor Range
