String Of Pearls
Size (Can grow to)
Medium 20-50cm Long
The Senecio rowleyanus is native to Southwest Africa and is commonly called String of Pearls or String of Beads. The String of Pearls gets its name from its small pea shapped leaves. Its trailing stems can grow up to 2-3 feet long. The pea shapped leaves is an adaption to its natural arid environment and allows for storage of water while exposing a minimum amount of surface area to the dry desert air. The String of Pearls can be grown indoors and outdoors. This plant grows well in bright light and some direct sunlight. When the plant is dormant it does prefer a little cooler conditions. Like most succulents the String of Pearls requires little water due to the ability to store water in its leaves, making it a low maintenance plant. The String of Pearls look great in hanging baskets or any any situation that allows its leaves to cascade over.
