Nephrolepis biserrata (Macho fern)
The Nephrolepis biserrata is native to Florida, Mexico, the West Indies and Central and South America. This variety is commonly called Macho Fern or Giant Sword Fern. The Macho Fern grows very large graceful drooping, broad fronds. These fronds can grow to over 1mtr long. Grow the Macho Fern in a shaded or partially shaded (morning and afternoon sun) spot. While it’s not a delicate fern it does like some protection from strong drying winds. The Macho Fern likes moist but not wet soil, so you will need to adjust watering according to the seasons (daily in summer and less in winter). As this fern is such a statement piece give it pride of place on a beautiful stand/pedestal or hanging somewhere that it can stretch its large fronds.
We also grow the Nephrolepis biserrata Macho Fern as part of the Hanging Basket Range
